There is always a point during a conference when the exhibition suddenly fills. A session ends, hundreds of people arrive at once and some of the most interesting conversations begin just as everyone is being called back into the next session.
We are looking forward to being part of that energy when the internal audit community gathers in London this September. Donna Littlechild, Paul Haley and Neil Belton will all be attending, and we would be delighted to meet clients, colleagues and anyone interested in where assurance is heading next.
The conference programme reflects many of the questions now facing internal audit leaders. How should the profession respond to AI? How can assurance have more influence with Boards? Where are the boundaries between second and third line responsibilities becoming less clear? What does good internal audit look like as organisations, risks and technology continue to change?
These are difficult subjects to explore properly in a brief conversation at a busy stand. That is why, alongside welcoming visitors throughout the two days, we are inviting delegates to book a dedicated 20-minute meeting with us in advance.

What could we discuss?
The meeting does not need to be a formal consultation or a sales conversation. It might simply be an opportunity to compare experiences, test an idea or get an independent view on a challenge you are facing.

The common thread is usefulness. Internal audit still needs rigour, independence and a clear view of risk and control. It also needs to help leaders understand whether the organisation is equipped to deliver what it has promised, and where confidence may be misplaced.
That is the direction in which we believe the profession is moving, and it is one of the conversations we are most looking forward to continuing in London.
